In this video we update a gas fireplace in Redditch. We start by using our approved gas safe engineer to cap the current gas fire. In this particular job the chimney is of a newer construction. A concrete gather and pre cast flue blocks are in place. There is a blockwork false chimney in the living room and the masonry stack on the exterior. As a result the chimney is rather deep.
We start by removing the concrete gather and structurally support the pre cast flue. We then insert a concrete lintel to support the front of the masonry. The fireplace is boarded with our special fireboard that provides a smooth paintable finish, a solid oak beam shelf is installed and the bespoke slate hearth is laid.
After that the chimney is lined with a Midtherm Midflex 316L liner and pot hanging bird guard cowl. The fireplace is boarded with a suitable fireboard that provides a smooth paintable surface. The plaster is made good and the fireplace is connected and commissioned. A HETAS certificate is issued upon completion.
