Approached by Shula & Phil at The Nailers Arms after completing previous work for them.
The owners had a great inspiration photo of a full brickwork exposed chimney that they would like to replicate. We planned to strip the chimney back and build a wraparound brickwork decorative chimney. Upon stripping the chimney back we quickly discovered that the whole chimney was structurally unstable and had been held together for many years by sheer luck. We supported everything and took most of the downstairs chimney breast down. We tied it back into the wall, rebuilt it with concrete block and then clad the face in brickwork as originally planned. We further supported the ceiling beam within the design and propped up all the remaining brickwork with the construction.
A section of insulated flue system made locally by Midtherm in Dudley was used within the first floor chimney rebuild as due to the construction it was simply a void. We lined the original part of the chimney where it meets the second floor with 904 grade Midtherm liner.
