In this video we install a Charnwood C4 BLU with log store after redesigning the entire inglenook fireplace. We start by removing the old 1970s style brickwork open fireplace that had been built centrally to the inglenook. Once back to the original opening we bricked up the back squaring everything off. We then had a feature reclaimed brick on edge to form the start of the hearth along with brickwork for the shelves either side. We then used a rustic slate tile to inlay behind the brickwork. A pedestal was created for the stove to sit on and give it more of a sense of presence within the large recess.
We used an insulated flue pipe due to the distance to the rear of the solid oak beam. A large bespoke closure plate was cut on site with a steel frame to close off the large chimney void above.
The plaster was made good on the sides and a rough cast render was applied to the rear matching the rest of the character of the cottage. A reclaimed bread oven door was the finishing touch in the original position of the bread oven that we found once we had opened the fireplace back up.
A HETAS certificate is issued upon completion.
