In this video we update a gas fireplace in Hawbush, Brierley Hill. We start by using our approved gas safe engineer to cap the current gas fire. After that is safely removed we open up the fireplace back to its builders opening. Once the fireplace is opened we insert a new concrete lintel to support the chimney and fix an English oak beam shelf in front of the lintel. The back bricks are cleaned up, mortar joints raked out and repointed. The hearth is then installed which in this particular video is a Indian grey stone hearth.
After that the chimney is lined with a Midtherm Midflex 316L liner and pot hanging bird guard cowl. The fireplace sides are boarded with a suitable fireboard that provides a smooth paintable surface. The plaster is made good and the fireplace is connected and commissioned. A HETAS certificate is issued upon completion.
