In this video we update and modify a 1970s dated fireplace construction in Droitwich. There was a lot of work involved in bringing this chimney up to scratch for an inset stove. Doug removed the current gas fire and stripped back the chimney exposing the structural integrity and what he had to work with. There was a structural steel canopy that was cut back and a series of lintels used to support the chimney. The left hand side was bricked back up using blocks to create a more traditional square style chimney breast.
To finish it off the new breast was plasterboarded and finished with multi finish plaster and the area around the fire finished with heat proof render to minimise movement.
A bespoke log store was created and lined with slate to provide a durable finish and a polished granite hearth was used to give it a contemporary style.
